Eve, Unkind [Drabble]
In 100 words, you learned the forbidden. Nothing 'good' could come of that.
She gave a bowl of cherries to a starving man, knowing he’d choke.
You never asked why she was so cruel because she too tasted of stone fruit, dark and sweet beside cyanide.
When they moved to destroy her, you risked everything to gift a warning. She called you a fool; of course she already knew. You believed I would leave this world without you? she laughed.
This was why you kneeled at her feet in the first place.
For knowledge.
After witnessing her, you needed to taste and see. The pit you swallowed in your stomach began to sprout.
Such vivid imagery! each line is like a punch of new information - I love the way you opened with the concept of a man choking on the cherry seeds, and closed with the pit sprouting. Death and life. Beautiful writing. Off to check out your other stuff!
I yearn for Eve. Great storytelling in such a small format!
