Watch a dead bird fall from the sky
The same as you watch a bird fly
Why don’t you shield your eye?
I thought I was your honeybee
Loved that you love me and I thought
I’d seen all I needed to see
To build my nest in you, baby
Ain’t it peacetime, now? Supposed to be
I wasn’t there but how can you say
What you say when you saw?
You say
Life ain’t life
Man ain’t man
Ate on death and thought it nutrient
Oh my, sweet one.
This is a bitter truth: you stink
Like overripe gone rot
Like a white, killing lie
Like I’m gonna die if I marry you
A slow blue glide behind the blinds
Inside where great American ghosts hide
Under the oak tree with a knothole
Where all my heroes became hitlers
Where my heart shriveled and stopped
Eye, a maggot in the sun
That strayed too far from the hog slop
"Ate on death and thought it nutrient"
I just love that line. It feels so right to roll around in my head.
The maggot and hog slop as well.
It makes me think of painting dead things in pretty colors even though they're undoubtedly rotting.
Love this one.
Goodness gracious, you can write.
